What is Golden Milk?

Golden milk, also known as turmeric latte, is a traditional Indian drink that has gained popularity worldwide. Its main ingredient is turmeric, a vibrant yellow spice known for its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Typically, golden milk also includes other beneficial spices like cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper, which not only add flavor but also enhance the absorption of turmeric.

Turmeric’s star compound, curcumin, has been studied extensively for its health benefits. Research suggests that it may help:

  • Reduce inflammation in the body
  • Support joint health
  • Boost immune function

Cuisine: Indian
Servings: 6

Equipment

  • 1 ice cream freezer
  • 1 freezer-safe dish optional

Ingredients

  • 2 cups full-fat coconut milk
  • 1 cup coconut cream
  • cup honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tblsp ground turmeric

  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper (enhances turmeric absorption)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch sea salt

Instructions

  • Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  • Once chilled, give the mixture a quick whisk and pour it into an ice cream maker.

  • Transfer the ice cream to a freezer-safe container, cover, and freeze for at least 2 hours before serving.
  • Before serving, let the ice cream sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes to soften slightly.

Notes

– If you don’t have an ice cream maker, you can still make this recipe. After step 4, pour the mixture into a freezer-safe container. Freeze for about 45 minutes, then remove and whisk vigorously or blend with an immersion blender. Repeat this process every 30-45 minutes until the ice cream reaches your desired consistency.
– For an extra anti-inflammatory boost, consider adding 1/4 cup of finely chopped candied ginger to the ice cream during the last few minutes of churning.
– This ice cream is best consumed within a week for optimal flavor and texture.
Enjoy your cooling, anti-inflammatory golden milk ice cream! Remember, while this treat offers health benefits, it should be enjoyed in moderation as part of a balanced diet.
